I am originally from Kerry, but I grew up in Co. Down in Ireland. As a youngster I was exposed to traditional Irish music through my family.
My mother's family were the musicians and singers and the father's were the dancers.
Later I went on to study classical music in Belfast and London.
I gigged with a few bands in England, jazz and blues mostly, as a bass player and with a few traditional English and Irish traditional folk
bands as a guitarist, mandola player, and occasional keyboard player.
Unfortunately an industrial accident put an end to this career, such as it was, as a performing musician.
Years later a very good friend of mine and a talented traditional musician, Tomás Ó G, persuaded me to try my hand at the diddlee-dee stuff
again, and I got back into the music.
Then in the late nineties I was given a computer which sat around for about six months until I discovered all the musical software that was available.
A new world opened up for me, the world of MIDI Orchestration.
Now I have built up a small studio based around two pcs and a mac, a midi keyboard and midi guitar, and various musical software.
I still occasionally play live at sessions and receptions. |
